How to catch a pig

No, I don't mean a big fish, I mean a pot bellied pig. I was awakened by a knock on the door this morning. One of my neighbors asked if I knew anyone who owned some pigs? They were on a parking lot near my house eating everything in sight. Two pot bellies cute as could be. A friend of mine went home to make a snare. We threaded a line through a long piece of pvc tubing and made a snare on the other end. We placed the snare around some food and waited for the pig to either step inside the circle or place his head in the snare.
By now there was a crowd of people and the pigs had been chased around the parking lot and were very warey. I tried to keep the people back so the pigs would relax, but they were not having any of it. People started taking pictures, throwing their lunches at the pigs, and generally being more of a pain in the a$$ than a help.
My friend went back to get a small saine net to throw on the ground and we baited it again with food. The idea was to try to trap his feet in the net and catch him.
By now, the cops have arrived. Two cops, one with a blanket, started trying to capture it. They soon found out that pigs are quick. It soon became a circus. Suggestions ranged from, tase them, to shoot them because someone had a large barbeque grill that would hold both of them.
At one point, the cops were chasing the pigs and one ran right over the net. I quickly pulled the net but the pig was across the net in a blink of an eye and I almost caught the cop who was chasing it.
Everyone started laughing, the cop was not amused.
Eventually, everyone had their fill of fun and we all left the pigs roaming the parking lot and the field nearby. We have about four acres of tomatoes, green peppers, radishes, cabbage, and cuccumbers in the field next to my house. If they find the field, I expect to be filming episodes of "wild hogs" in a few years.
Oh well, maybe animal control will set some traps. At least I had an interesting morning.

While that's a great idea (why didn't I think of it); some of the "spectators" would have died to hear the pigs squealing and being "fought" on heavy tackle.

When I was with Animal Control we had a rash of complaints of pot belly pigs. It seemed like everyone wanted these cute little pigs until they grew up and put on about 200 pounds and they cut them loose. We did use humane traps to trap them because there was no way I was going to run around in circles chasing after them, those little guys are fast. Thanks for the laugh that was a good read. All by the way I have not heard from Rich, have you given him the rod to be fixed.
