Not to worry; we have circle hooks mandated
One of the reasons I finally left the Tidal Fish site was a disagreement with many of the current posters on that site. When "circle hooks" were being considered mandatory by the State, I was against the proposal. I was called anti-conservationalist by a good friend on that site.
It wasn't so much that I was "totally" against circle hooks (if you want to use them, go for it), what I was against was that the State of Maryland was looked upon as doing something great for the fish population. Where in fact, it cost them NOTHING to implement this GREAT pro-fish action. All they did was pass a law They already had officers to check upon anglers (not that I know of anyone who has been checked).
What we NEED when the State gets involved is BIG changes. Changes that I myself can't accomplish.
Clean up those poop plants so they don't dump untreated waste into the bay where we eat and play.
Clean up the debris behind the dam that affects boating opportunities after they open most of the gates.
Do BIG things; not small things and then thump your chest with pride.

I don't expect much from our State government, and I'm usually not disappointed
