Default Sea Bass Fishing

Tim and I went out on the 125' Big Jamaica out of Brielle NJ.This was a 18 hour trip.We were fishing for Sea Bass/Porgies/Cod and anything else we could pull in.The trip was from Sat at 11:00 pm till Sun 6:30 pm The weather was:
SAT NIGHT
NW WINDS INCREASING TO 25 TO 35 KT. SEAS BUILDING
TO 7 TO 12 FT.

SUN
NW WINDS 20 TO 30 KT DIMINISHING TO 10 TO 15 KT...HIGHEST
E. SEAS SUBSIDING TO 3 TO 6 FT...HIGHEST SE.
The temps were low of 17 high of 33........BURRR!
It was rough and it was cold but the fishing was good.We both caught are limit of Sea Bass 3 to 5 lbs, 12 porgies each and 8 blues.I caught a few on the diamond jig and squid teaser but most were had on a top and bottom rig baited with clams. We were offshore 70 miles and fishing in 150' to 200' of water.

Thanks Marty for posting my pictures.I am not much of a story teller. One thing I can add is the Gannets would put there heads under the water and watch for a fish to be reeled up and swim down and try to steal it off of the hook.A few of them got the hook. They all were released unharmed. The smart ones would just wait till someone would release a short fish and swim down and get it.I was surprised how big of a fish they can swallow down. The pictures do not do the waves justice it was rough. At least half of the crew called RALPH !!!!!LOL.

The mate told us that the water temp was 54 degrees.Unusually warm for this time of year.He also said that the Cod dont show up till the water temperature is in the mid 40s.I did see a Ling get caught but no Cod.

Dan,

Nice report, and those sea bass will be good eating! I was a little surprised to see blues in the mix, which might be explained by the 'warm" water.
