Default if you like blues

We have been doing extremely well on bluefish this summer. The first big blues (18-20 inches) showed up near Sharps Island Light earlier this summer and we couldn't wait for them to eat their way to BIGGER blues at the end of the summer. Well they did their job. We have been catching 20-24 inch blues the last couple of trips. I estimate these brutes to be in the 5-7 pound range. The earlier blues were eating silversides, these are eating spot. When they "spit up" their dinner on the deck, large pieces of fish come up. Some silversides are evident as well, but lots of bigger bait all over the deck.

We are catching them two at a time on spreader bars with Capt John's spoons. Color makes no difference. We are throwing silver, chartruse, blue, red, and barney purple at them. Whatever is handy.

Birds were everywhere. There had to be a five hundred birds working off Poplar Island this morning. Oops, did I give the location away. Fish were in 25 ft, then 35 ft and finally 45 ft. They just didn't stop. We worked them for 2 1/2 hours. Only one other charter out there with us (it was windy).

Our crew wanted blues (deepfried and smoked) so we stayed with them. Only one keeper rock was caught today. I'm convinced rock are under the blues, but we kept our lines high and targeted the bluefish.

The blues were so ferocious that not only did we see boiling water; but the water was RED with blood in the center of the action. I have never seen this before. It was carnage.

I will send a photo of the fish to Scott from my iPhone and maybe he can post it for me.

I'll be off the water until next week. I have to prep my new boat and try to get my old boat ready to sell.

For those of you who don't know, I fell into an opportunity I had to take advantage of. I am the proud owner of a 2011 27 Judge Chesapeake.

Maybe I'll send a photo of it to Scott as well and he can post it.

See you on the water soon with my new ride.
