Tuesday's weather was just too nice not to go fishing. Did not get to Sandy Point until about 12:30 but lucked into good out going current - full moon helped.
Launched the boat while Black Lab - Ruckus - played in water. Had to be near freezing but no keeping him out. Boat was warmed up and whistled for my buddy to get on the boat.
Bay was smooth and weather warm enough to only need a sweat shirt. Water temp. was 38-39*. Ran to deep water on edge of channel to look for fish.
Finder showed fish and bait near bottom in 60 feet.
Motored up current and drifted over them. A gold Sting Silver very gently shaken did the trick and got a fat little Rock.
Drift was quick so elected to anchor. Put over a bottom rig with 1 inch white Gulp. - hoping for Perch. Saw marks on bottom that looked like Perch. The Sting Silver got Rock - Ruckus was not impressed , he likes Perch.
Current slowed so I tried a 1 1/2 jighead with white Bass assassian. Barely bouncing it on bottom was the ticket and got 18 to 24 inchers. Nice looking fish - really fat.
Current slowed around 3:00 and so did bite. Pulled anchor and looked around but never found the fish. Ran back to ramp on calm seas.
Once back - saw how low the low tide was , explains the long running current.
Ruckus likes being in cockpit and barking at ducks.
He played in water while I got boat on trailer.
If you go - beware all the goose poop near ramp and on docks. You need to see it to believe it - real mess. Look close at first photo - all those brown things are poop piles.
Got back and it was still warm enough to wash off the boat - rare to be able to do that end of January.
