Default Hate to Hear These Things - Body Found in the Potomac

http://www.foxbaltimore.com/newsroom...id_11113.shtml

Duck hunter dies after his boat capsizes. No word on whether he was wearing his pfd or not. Victim was 30 years old, and his 56 year old hunting partner survived.

Obviously it's smart to wear your pfd all the time, but even more so when it's so frigging cold out.

i've finally taken to wearing one if i'm alone on the boat or with just my daughter.

same thing with the dead man on the ignition. i have almost 20' line on it that lets me walk anywhere on the boat. i pulled it by accident a couple times at first but i've become better about that and it hasn't happened lately.

i used a piece of hi-tech line (sailing gear) and a carabiner. it's very strong, hi-vis red, sm diameter, and very limp/no memory.

Inflatable suspenders are the way to go. You don't know you have them on.

This time of year if you fall over, you won't be found until spring, unless you do wear one.

Saw on the news - a recovery team was searching one of the reservoirs in Md using side scan.

Worker fell into the water - empty boat was found but not the guy.

Just to add one more morbid tale - report of a capsized boat near Sandy Point around 3:00 today. One person missing - in these water temps , that is very bad news.

I was in downtown Annapolis right at 3pm when the county's marine emergency unit came flying through the circle towing their inflatable. I was on a big charter boat about 10 minutes later and the vhf was on fire with chatter.

Saw on news - sailboat with three people onboard capsized near Sandy Point.

Women called on cell phone for help. She and a 40 year old man were rescued but man later died.

25 year old man is still missing - presumed dead at this time due to water temps below 50*.

Unless you are found quickly, all a PFD will do is locate your body sooner Cold water kills quick. My 17' Key West goes in the barn as soon as the water is too cold to swim in. I fell through ice in a pond and I will NEVER forget it. My prayers go out to those families........Gary

From FOX45's website:

Quote:
The Maryland Natural Resources Police report that the body that was found Monday morning in the 2200 block of Chesapeake Harbor Drive, East is Tyler Cordrey, 25 from Eden, Md.

Cordrey went missing on December 17, after a sailboat capsized near the Sandy Point light house in the Chesapeake Bay.

Monday, January 16 2012, 09:27 PM EST

He was found about a mile south of Easport. Didn't go very far in a month of being in the water.

Default One Final Follow Up...with a few details...

http://broadneck.patch.com/articles/...apeake-harbour

Details that FOX couldn't seem to get:

Quote:
Cordrey had been sailing with his girlfriend Taylor Rogers, 25, of Salisbury and friend Daniel DeNike, 46, of Laurel, when their 18-foot Precision sailboat capsized. All three were wearing life jackets when they went overboard, according to the NRP.

Rogers survived after being treated for hypothermia, but DeNike died in the hospital. Cordrey’s dog, Roscoe, was also lost in the accident.

The Capital reported that Cordrey may have given away his life jacket to Rogers. and his family said that was the sort of thing he would do.
