Blue Angels Practice Day
Took the kids out of school yesterday when saw that morning forecast had improved. Ran south before sunrise to 82 where we dropped boards in and deployed full spread heading west from the channel. Strong incoming current to start and didn't hit the first fish until we were in 35' and landed a 28" off the boards. Next fish was a 24" that hit deep spoonbrella with 5" blue tsunamis moments later . Lots of bait around, but few fish marks. Suffered through slack while taking the long ride out to channel and back to radar towers while marking only scattered fish and bait. When we got back to 30-33' we found the fleet at the radar towers and bait flipping on the surface in pods. We picked up 4 from 19-21" in about an hour or so as the outgoing really got going strong. Pulled lines while heading back to channel and couldn't get any of the scattered big fish marks to bite. We had bugs covering everything in the cockpit and rod holders all morning and opened up the front windows to blow them out on ride back to Severn. The pre-show was just starting as we rounded Tolly Point and we found a great spot to anchor on north edge of Horn Point shoal in 4ft of water. Enjoyed the pre-show while catching up on some work on the laptop and Robin and boys played games. Just before show started at 2pm we got out the bloodworms and Robin and boys were catching YOY rockfish non-stop. About mid-show, the white perch showed up and we managed 4 nine inchers that went in the box for a nice appetizer before dinner. The show was fabulous and the Tuesday crowd was small. Looking forward to going back out for the show today.
