Default Spanish above Tolchester

Headed out Wed. 7 am and was greeted with a 3 foot chop on the open bay. Went over to the eastern side where the water was a bit calmer and was hoping to find birds but nothing. Decided to troll for rock from Tolchester north to Pooles. No takers and nothing showing on the meter so decided to switch to fast troll for Spanish. Put over 4 rod spread, Clark spoons 00 and 01 in gold, silver, silver/green, silver/pink. #2 planers 40 and 60 ft. and #1 planers 80 and 100 ft. at 9 mph. Started just south of Worton and headed south. As soon as the last rod was out #2 planer at 40 ft. tripped and it was game on. We got a steady pick as we headed back and forth south along the shipping channel to Swan point. All rods produced but the #2 planers out produced 4 to 1. We ended up with 10 before we headed for the barn. We lost just as many bringing them to the boat. I noticed sometimes as we went over schools of Macks on the meter, we would get lots of hits on all the rods but the planers did not trip. Obviously there are lots of strikes before solid hookups. Great day on the water, had the whole bay to ourselves. Love fishing during the week...Joe
