Sometimes in winter - the fish like a Sting silver just quivered / shaken gently.
I'll let it touch bottom - then barely shake the rod tip. Now / then , a gentle lift - maybe 4-5 inches. Often feel 2-3 taps , my guess is smaller Perch. Then a good bump - fish on.
It pays to try different jigging tactics - keep in mind , the deeper the water - more rod movement required.
I like braid with a 36 inch leader - 20 lb. test. Watch out for nicks - sometimes a sting silver will foul over the leader.
In summer - I'll use a sting silver - right on bottom , 6 to 12 inch hops. Key is to hit bottom every drop. You should get a few shells now / then if doing it right. Weeds out the smaller Perch when they are thick on oyster bars.
Tough to fish one wrong. Some guys tie a teaser fly - 18 inches up the leader.
