Skates are EVERYWHERE....

Even way up in the Magothy. My neighbor texted me a video of a Skate splashing about in the water at Beachwood Park. I've never seen them so far upriver before.

And the Jellyfish are predicted to be THICK soon too.

Most likely they are really Cownose Rays.

Skate seems to be a popular nick name for them.

Both look similar - true Skates are often thinner the Rays.

I think this is when the winged devils mate - often see 2-3 chasing one.

With the high salinity levels - likely they will be far up rivers. Heard the Severn is full of them.

Phil and I ran into a mess of them a few years ago. We saw them from a distance and they looked like breaking fish, so we trolled into them.

When we realized what they were, I hit the spool releases on all the rods to get under them...and to our complete surprise, there was a school of rock feeding beneath them.

A little tricky reeling them in, but we limited in about 30 minutes.
