Fall trolling
I'm trying to get organized for trolling this fall. I'll be starting small, with 6 rods.
What are some easy to use "must haves" in your spread? Any tip are appreciated! Thanks Brian |
Early fall: a couple Capt John spreader bars either rigged with the spoons or tsunamis, a couple tandem white ruby lip bucktails, mix up the sizes so long as both lures on the tandem rig are not the same weight or you will tangle things up. Spring or fall I always run a 17 or 19 tony on wire line dead on bottom, I know old school but 8 out of 10 times the biggest fish comes on them.As fall progresses I just keep upsizing baits week to week based on the largest fish caught the previous trip. This setup usually brings home the meat for me. I have just recently the past couple years moved inshore from a lifelong passion for Marlin/tuna fishing and the guys on here have taught me so much during the transition. Good luck!

Tandem rigged parachutes if the big fish start to show up, small bucktails until they do. Maybe a small drone/Tony/spoon of some sort. It seems like surgical tubes (hoses) are working too well at this point. Smarter people than me probably have better suggestions but that's what I'd suggest. ( And I'd be tempted to hold off on using the umbrella as long as I could too, at least until bigger fish show up) Good luck!!! I sure hope they show up this fall  |
Thanks for the tips guys! I have some shopping to do.
"Mako Mike" my trolling experience is all offshore as well. Chesapeake fishing is all new to me. Are planer boards a must when starting out trolling only 6 rods? |

6 rods in the fall... Here is what I would run.
Gotta mix in 6" baits in the fall with all the juvenile bunker coming out of the rivers.. Plus it helps with the sub 28" fish. A few of our biggest fish have come on 6" baits. |
After being surrounded by trollers this weekend. I decided it was time to get a few more trolling rods. Now I just need the tackle! Any recommendations for a place to shop online? Can't wait to get back out there!

Why buy on line when you have so many great local retailers. Not sure where you live but to just mention a few:
Marty's- Edgewater Alltackle- Annapolis Anglers-Annapolis Tyler's-Chesapeake Beach Fishbones-Pasadena Clydes-Landsdowne Bass Pro-Hanover These are just a few of the local retailers. And don't forget about all the up coming shows and flea markets over the winter. The shows offer so many good deals it could take one broke! It may cost a few more dollars to shop local but ine information and local knowledge can be priceless! |
