A Reminder
With all the increased live line fishing for Stripers, I've noticed a lack of Spot in some areas.
In those areas there is still a large amount of small Croakers. Take the time to make sure the bait fish you catch are not these undersize Croakers. No spot behind the gill and a multiple color hue in sun light are the easy clues. A bait well full of undersize Croakers can ruin a day of fishing, if checked by the NRP. Croakers have to be 9" minimum. |
Perfect point..Was just thinking the same thing on Friday night while I was out...

The mouth on Spot remind me of Dolphin. Croaker have mouth more similar to White Perch IMO.
Good call....especially for those of us new to livelining. |
Another easy way to tell the two apart.
Spot has a tail that forks inward. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...0Pics/Spot.png Croaker has a tail that bulges out - almost to a point. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries...ic_croaker.jpg |
