Ocean City April
 

I'll be in OC for a couple days the first week of April. Is there anything to fish for at this time. I can take rods for fishing the bridge, behind the skate rink off the bay, or the jetty.
Anything biting at all this time of year?

I can't anser your question directly, but here's a good site with some nice info on OC area fish, and 2012 tides. They also have a discussion forum but it doesn't seem too active. Might be good for some local intel though.

Thanks Scott, I looked at that already. Looks like I just miss the start of flounder season:mad:. I don't know if any of the bay boats will even be in the water (baybee, toutouga, ect.). I guess I just need to see whats available when I get there.
I always wanted to hitch a ride on the Get Sum out of the O.C Marina. Looks like my kind of boat (26ft deadrise).

Marty - Get in touch with Paul (Reeltor). He is pretty much in tune with OC and where to fish.

Mike Robertson and Steve F on TF also fish down there a lot in shore. Not sure when Taug start. And with the warm weather Stripers have started early, Flounder probably will to.

Marty - The surf fishing at Assateague should be heating up around then, just a short drive from OC.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I'll call OysterBay Tackle two days ahead of time and ask whats happening. Flounder fishing C/R would be fine with me, if I can find a boat running. If I have to surf fish, I will hit Assateague. The wife loves it there as well. I can fish while she explores. I may take two kayaks just in case. I can always hit the ramp just before going into the park.

I'd hit Assateague. Mother's Day is normally a good starting point but this year has been early. Fresh bunker where you can get it.

Thanks Paul. Now when I surf fish (not often), my fresh bait never stays on a hook. Don't laugh, I have best success with :fishbites". I know the water may be too cold for them now (I think they suggest 60+ degree water), but I've caught flounder, kings, spot, and a sand shark on fishbites. Is there a trick to keeping the fresh bait on the hook? Maybe if I used the head of a menhaden, it would stay on longer.
Last summer, I was darn near ready to put fresh bait in one of those little crab bags they use for razor clams. Every time I checked my bait, IT was gone:eek:.
As you can tell, I'm a great surf fisherman:D. One day, I'll learn how to read the beach to tell where the holes, sloughs, and rips are:p.

Have you been tying your fresh bait on the hook? An old trick is to use dental floss and wrap it around the bait tightly to hold the bait onto the hook. Hope this helps, Bob
