Solomons 11/12: 47" & 6 more
Capt. Cris Mills on the CoolBeanz out of Breezy followed the big fish are moving south, moving the CoolBeanz from Breezy down to Solomons.
We ran out to the middle of the channel and put out the boards and a nice 21 rod spread with big baits covering the column high to low. It was pretty slow for a while, but eventually a deep boat rod went down hard. A Chesapeake newbie was first up, and pulled in a beauty; when we got back Bunky's measured it at 47.5" for his Maryland citation. We got it in in 90'; she took a single John Deer mojo with a 12" chartreuse shad; total of 40 oz weight out about 60'. After trying hard to get another big'un or two we heard there were a lot of working birds and catching going on in 40' of water N & S of Point Lookout. We pulled 6 more in over the next couple of hours running 5 tandems and calcutta-brellas. Most were 25" - 30", with the dink coming in at 22". The calcutta-brella got a double header; nice way to catch 53" of rockfish. |

Hopefully catching the bruiser first didn't spoil the rest of the day. What is a John Deer Mojo? Green and yellow? Glad you had a good day. |
"What is a John Deer Mojo? Green and yellow?"
John Deer just refers to the colors. Its a green and yellow parachute, in primary colors like the tractors. George makes them at Tylers. Everybody managed to get over their disappointment in only catching 20-30"ers :o Worked out well; with the double, we had 6 hits that ended up with fish on board...perfect for our party of 6 :D |
And any day spent on the water is nice....especially in such pleasant weather.
I gotta' get don to Tyler's one day. Been past there a few times but never had time to stop. :( |
Tylers is a great place with great people.
They do the winter shows/fleamarkets in a big way, too...seems like they move the whole place over  and everything is 20% off. Little stuff to big...they bring a LOT. I usually do my annual shopping with them at the TriState show in Deale. |

If you have the info for Tylers' gig, post it up for everyone. I'd love to hit it, and it seems like most fishermen (and women) are aching for anything fishing related to do over the winter. |
