Crabbing Report 8-14-2010
Tried crabbing Saturday with limited results. Baited the line up fresh and anticipated a early day with a basket. WRONG!!!!! Saturday AM I was at the ramp early and greeted by a flood tide. I was hoping it would move. First run of the line I had one keeper and three small crabs. Continued running the line until 8:00am with similar results. Called a few friends who were crabbing in different location and everyone gave the same report SLOW. Eastern shore slow Western shore slow.
Ended the day with 18 crabs. Came back to the ramp and the tide was still high. Marina owner reported crabbing has been slow and the tide has been supper high. On Friday the water was 4” over some of his piers. On Sunday the water was still up. When the tide moves again we should have a good run of crabs. Good luck gang. |
You're too far south. Plenty of Crabs in the Upper Bay rivers

I went Friday evening after the wind died down on the Severn and caught 3/4's bushel of nice large crabs. We caught some huge females that were thrown back along with alot of small crabs. The most keepers we had on one run on a 1000' line was 9.:D I have never tried the evening or afternoon for crabs... but I liked not dealing with the pressure I am use to in the mornings.
The tide was high when we came in at dark! The water was even with the top of Smith's Marina piers. |
I guess I should have to stayed closer to home. I crab away fromthe crowds which means go South. I may have to place the battle gear back on the skiff and crab in the upper bay with the rest of ya:D
Thanks for reports gang |
All I have heard from after the 4th of July is tons of small crabs stealing baits. Don't know where the big ones went but I know they were all not caught. A drought will send them into the North Rivers but we had had a good bit of rain lately. Fall crabbing should be good with all the little ones around now.........Gary

Deeper has been ALOT better for me lately. The last three time out down south I have packed a bushel in less then 2 hours with 1000ft of trotline. Most crabs came in 8-12ft and ALL big crabs were in 10-12ft.
