Regualtions Not the Only Enemy - Drilling

So I guess the current administration is truly an agent of change....Just like they said they would be...

Now the president wants to open oil drilling off the coast of Virginia...Lifting a 20 year ban....Nice job, Mr. environment....I am sure the fish moving up the coast are going to love all the crap that comes along with drilling....

Next up, allowing tankers to dump waste in the bay, oil slicks from NC to DE, and exploration drilling in the bay for oil deposits.....

Mike it really isn't POTUS, its the new governor.

I'm all for it.... Need to "change" things now...

And just think about how we can fish around oil rigs, and not have to travel to the Gulf.. Hell ya.....

Good point...Never thought about it that way....More structure !

WASHINGTON — Environmentalists gave a thumbs-down Wednesday to President Barack Obama's plan to expand oil drilling off US coasts.

Obama's plan would open tracts of the Atlantic off the coast of Virginia to exploration and expand leases for prospecting off the western coast of Florida.

WASHINGTON: A thirty year moratorium on offshore oil and gas drilling comes to an end today with a proposal to open up large swaths of coastline for exploration. President Obama announced the move today with Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar by his side at Andrews Air Force Base outside the nation’s capitol.
Quote:

The Administration’s strategy announced calls for developing oil and gas resources in new areas, such as the Eastern Gulf of Mexico; increasing oil and gas exploration in frontier areas, such as parts of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans; and protecting ocean areas that are simply too special to drill, such as Alaska’s Bristol Bay.

This NY Times link will show a small map of wher ethe proposed drilling will take place, and it looks to include MD, VA, and DE.
Quote:

The proposal — a compromise that will please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of affected states and many environmental organizations — would end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.

Under the plan, the coastline from New Jersey northward would remain closed to all oil and gas activity. So would the Pacific Coast, from Mexico to the Canadian border.

Not only more structure for fish.....but a move in the right direction for an energy policy that makes sense.....this Country is in a quandary with energy.....and it's gonna bite us in the *ss......remember the Arab Oil Embargo of 73.....and we're still dependent on them.
I can't agree with POTUS on a lot of things.....but we cannot keep the status quo of the last 40 years regarding energy.

The REAL answer is nuclear energy but we have to get off of the foreign oil dependency. We can't complain about high fuel prices and not tap our own oil supply. We get most of our nuclear power from Canada and if there was an incident the winds would blow it all over us. Better we build our own plants and have more control. We have come a long way since three mile island.........Gary

Total agreement.....need more nuclear.....but don't forget solar, wind and geothermal.....the answers are pretty clear, the application of the developing technologies is the hurdle......the pols don't wanna p.o. Big Oil...

Funny thing about 3 Mile island.......the cause was human error.....all of the safety systems worked as designed when triggered.....never hear much about that.....conspiracy?

"The president's decision to allow energy exploration off Virginia's coast will mean thousands of new jobs, hundreds of millions in new state revenue and tens of billions of dollars in economic impact for the commonwealth," said Gov. Bob McDonnell in Virginia, which is first in line to begin drilling that wouldn't begin for at least five years."

In a priority list, nuclear is on the bottom. Break dependency on foreign oil, is first and foremost. We need fuel for transportation. Solar and wind would be second and third.

Still love the idea of fishing around oil rigs in Virginia :)

Sorry guy ...... but if you think more supply will lower gas prices then your dreamin' ....... oil companies control the flow and the price ...... just look at the trends. The prices raise for little or no reason at all. Everytime there is a travel holiday the prices start rising at least a month in advance. Just look at the prices now and what they were in January/Feb ......... it ain't demand ...... it's just greed for profit ...... same way with the 73 gas shotrage ...... plenty of gas in tankers just off shore ...... we were told that there was just a 20 year gas supply in the earth ......... 30 years later there is still more gas than can be pumped ........ the 73 thing was to get prices from 30 cents/gal to $1.00/gal without backlash ...... it worked. We begged to pay any price as long as it was available .......... same song different day ......... supply isn't the problem .... it's greed. ....... and these guys are experts at diverting the attention away from them so we will pay the price without even a whimper .......

But all that new structure will be SWEEEET .......... just look at what they catch around the structure around the CBBT ands in the gulf ..........

and now Skip can quit and become a full time diver like he's always wanted .....
