Powder painting Fluid Bed DIY

Gang, I am jumping into lure making for the winter. Decided to use powder paint. Evidently, a fluid bed makes it easier to apply the powder. The kit in the stores run roughly $80.00. I made this one for $20.00. 3" Pvc for the cups and an end cap for the base. One ice maker compresion fitting, and a pump.

Fluid Bed

Very ingenious.
What material did you use for the membrane at the bottom of the cup, one that allows correct air flow and keeps the paint from leaking out the bottom?
The best accessory for me is an adapter that allows one to use smaller (less expensive and requires less paint) paint cups so you can afford to use one cup for each color.

I also make most of my own lures and jig heads.

If you shop around you can find white powder paint very reasonable.

The right color of chartreuse, on the other hand, is only available from a few manufactures and commands a premium price.

I use a spray can clear coat over must of my lures. They last longer.

I just buy the paint by the pound and forget about it. Unless I you are making lures resale, a pound of paint lasts a LONG time. I have gotten away from any liquid / spray clear coat and use strictly powder. 100% better and no drying time. When cured correctly I can drop a 6 oz trolling bait from chest level to concrete and it will dent the lure and not break the paint. Pretty impressive stuff.

Nice fluid bed!
