Hang in There......
Some of you will be launching your boats in 4 weeks....maybe less.
Upper 40's to mid 50's here near Bloody Point for the next ten days and that puts us more than halfway through February without a single snowflake here (well except for the yuppies moving over here from Annapolis....lol) On Dec 22 I took a screenshot of the weather. Sunrise was at 7:20am and sunset at 4:45pm Today it's 7:05am and 5:32pm. The day is officially more than an hour longer in just 46 days Trying to find a bright side to this winter. Now.....who wants to prognosticate on what the fishing will be like this year? |
The fishing is going to be fantastic:) We lose 2 weeks at the start, but we will be hitting those males and a few remaining females hard in shallower water with smaller baits on all the lines:D
When the summer season shuts down, I'll move the boat south (not moving south for trophy season) for blues/spanish and an occasional redfish. If that doesn't work out, I'll head even farther south for redfish/cobia. I'm not letting the A-Holes at DNR (who can't coordinate a recovery) bother me. I'm not even going to participate in the "mad a charter boats because they get two fish", because they have their chit together better than the rec fishermen. We always lose because we spend all our time being mad at trollers, jiggers, bait fishermen, commercials, netters, and now charters. Just another example of "divide and conquer". We should be the most influencial group, but that opportunity passes us by every time:mad: So you have a couple extra weeks to get the boat ready. Be ready to hit the water running. I'll be on the water with my boat and many other friends who have boats scattered up and down the bay to reach the schools. Last year, the spot were plentiful and I spent more days at the bridge than in the last 5 years. Maybe that will be the "go to area again this year". My last radiation treatment is this coming Tuesday. I'm going to be optimistic about the outcome and fish, fish, fish, golf:eek: 5th |
Rec fishermen are the same as gun owners; complacent until the state starts attacking them, then they ***** at each other about how much compromise is acceptable, or they conflate so many other issues into their arguments that any valid point they might have is lost in the static.
Striper fishing was ok for me last year, but other species were really good. I was catching Spot, White Perch and Croaker out back past Halloween. I can't complain when I can walk outside with an ultralite combo and cast the same small spoon around the pier and almost always find some fish. I even joined the "Lazy Man Catfish Club" and sat out in the evenings to take a few Blue Cats and Channel Cats out of the bay. It's nowhere near as sexy as being on a nice boat out in the bay pulling in pretty Rockfish, Blues (and Spanish Mac a' plenty last year) but it satisfies the itch. I didn't see a single Skate last year. Never caught any here at the house but I usually see a few frolicking about. No Horseshoe Crabs last year either whereas they were all over the bottom previously. I'm only an hour away from the prime Snakehead spots so maybe I'll haul my kayak down there more this year. I went out on the Transquaken River once last summer in August and didn't get a single bite on a dozen different lures. Not. One. Bite. No pan fish, no bass, no cats, no snakeheads......So I turned on some music on my phone, drank a few beers, anchored the yak' and slept until I felt like paddling back to the ramp. No fish, but still a good day. I've said it before; you guys take the brunt of the regulation changes. You've invested a lot in catching fish on the bay, you've provided tons of money to the state in taxes and fees. And you get screwed a lot more than me. I'd LOVE to be out on the bay all the time but, I make the best out of what I can. Would love to see nice Reds move into Eastern Bay this year. |
