Mako are here.
I dont usually post a lot of reports, but here goes:
Shark fishing out of Chincoteague Saturday. We ran out to the Ordnance but the water was cold @ 58, so we ran in a little to the Lumpy. Water was a little better there @ 61, but still not what we were looking for. We decided to set up and drift over the lumpy anyway. Nice slick of bunker chum and bunker oil from a squirt bottle. About an hour in we see a 100# Thresher jumping high about 75 yards off our port side. He never came into our spread. An hour later we are getting some blue fish nibbles, then a 5’ Mako enters the spread. After sampling many baits he take a big Spanish mackerel and runs. Hooked and brought to the gaff quickly. Tail roped for dinner. Set up for another drift over the lumpy. One more bite, a 7’ blue shark. That was it for the day. Ran back in on a small following. Fun day. The mako are here! Yes, it was delicious on the grill.
