Good opening day

Stayed above bridge in the dirty, debris filled water. Landed 3 slot fish and had a 4th on for a short period but lost it. Also lost 2 lure rigs (about $55) but was perfect weather and no one rammed into me while I was running along minding my own business. Back out there again tomorrow.
Both White and chart off boards caught 2 were solos and 1 was tandem. #4 would have been a fairly deep tandem boat rod had it made it to the boat. Stared at a Very blank screen most of the day. Back at it tomorrow. :)

The slot is certainly doing its job! Even though we only came home with 2 (instead of a limit of 4) I think my clients were cool with it because they all caught fish.

Good luck tomorrow Jeff.
I don't think my slot fish will make it. She swallowed a 20oz. Buck tail and was bleeding everywhere. She did swim off so hopefully she will be ok.

Pickin's were very slim today from what I've heard. VERY few fish were able to come home so nice job getting 2 "in the box" for your party and getting everyone a turn on the rod !! Nice work!

Well if you caught it last year, and it went into the fish box, it definitely wouldn't have made it so at least now it has a 50/50 chance. Sounds like a lot of fish got a "second chance" today because of the slot. Since I rarely eat Rockfish, and don't depend on them to pay my bills, I'm ok with it. Hopefully their plan works and we will be smothered in fish down the road as a result.

Lost one 30 feet behind the boat on the morning trip and that was it. Came home busted.

Found one 35" on the afternoon trip.

Tons of jellies.

Most guys down by us crawled in with anywhere from 0-3.

Heard a lot of horror stories about guys coming back in busted after throwing back 36-40" fish.

Back at it tomorrow - we have a double.

We managed to get two slot and one for dinner. All I needed yesterday was some peanut butter to go with those jellies.

Tough opening day, lots of boat traffic and despite marking fish and bait all morning shallow and deep, we couldn't get the fish to bite. We were grateful, however, that we only snagged one menhaden and 2 jellies. In mid morning when bite turned on for Greg he called us over but the bite ended before we got there. We stayed put though and just after noon managed to get 2 strikes on the same deep umbrella within minutes and the second one made it to the boat. It was 39" and put my youngest son Darin in 1st place for Youth Division for Boatyard tournament! Thanks to Greg for putting us on the fish!

Congrats to Darin!

It was great seeing you out there. When I first set up in there we had menhaden tails piercing the glassy calm surfaces. I knew it would only be a matter of time.
