Sting Silvers on sale - Angler's

Angler's has Sting Silver spoons on sale - only $1.99 each if you buy ten or more.

Good selection of colors - feather hooks too. Mostly the 1 1/2 oz stubby size.

Mention " Judge " and get a discount :D

Good chance to stock up on these lures - great for bigger Perch / Rock.

The gold with green feather is a favorite of mine in fall / winter.

I'll bet those gold jobs will work well on Spanish in August. I may have to go up there and pick some up. Thanks Skip, and happy new year!

Nice....I guess I'll swing in there tomorrow on my way to work.....since they're right across the street from me.

$1.99 seems like a good price, and who doesn't need at least 10 of them?:D

Skip,

Thanks for the "heads up"...Do they have any more "rock bottom" deals like that ?

That's funny. I even towed my boat to their parking lot and they charged me double  :D

Stingsilvers will catch anything.. Stripers, flounder, weakfish, perch, and even toadfish. I got a $50 gift certificate to Anglers for Christmas, I was going to save them for bloodworms and fishbites since it seemed like I was in there a few times a week over the summer buying them (for me, my son and his buddies). However, I may have to pick up some sting silvers and a few more of those very light parachutes with the glitter heads that have worked well for me.

So let's talk about how to work them.

I've jigged them around the bridge a little, thrown them through a flock of birds attacking baitfish and it sounds like people troll them.

How about for White Perch? Let them sink a little and then fast retrieve?

While I've caught suspended fish on stingsilvers, I think they're best used when fish are holding near the bottom. It's a great lure for vertical jigging, especially this time of year for white perch. The way I use them is to drop down until I feel the bottom, then snap up and let it settle back until you feel the bottom again, then snap again always keeping a tight line. They're very good around the Bay Bridge rockpiles through the winter until the spring rains/runoff washes out the deep warm water. When the current is really rolling I cast them upstream and let them drift down but try to keep them as vertical as possible. I really like this particular design on generic stingsilvers because of the single hook and feather dressing.

We use stingsilvers like Kimbro.. Verticle jigging off the bottom. Quick lifts will letting them fall without slack in the line. Most hits come on the fall. We have dressed the hook with a squid strip or even a bkd when appropriate.

Sometimes in winter - the fish like a Sting silver just quivered / shaken gently.

I'll let it touch bottom - then barely shake the rod tip. Now / then , a gentle lift - maybe 4-5 inches. Often feel 2-3 taps , my guess is smaller Perch. Then a good bump - fish on.

It pays to try different jigging tactics - keep in mind , the deeper the water - more rod movement required.

I like braid with a 36 inch leader - 20 lb. test. Watch out for nicks - sometimes a sting silver will foul over the leader.

In summer - I'll use a sting silver - right on bottom , 6 to 12 inch hops. Key is to hit bottom every drop. You should get a few shells now / then if doing it right. Weeds out the smaller Perch when they are thick on oyster bars.

Tough to fish one wrong. Some guys tie a teaser fly - 18 inches up the leader.

Shawn, Skip and B,

Thanks a bunch....much appreicated.

I think I'll be spending a lot of time working them as you all have suggested.
