22" in 4 and 1/2' of water

You have to love the end of summer season, beginning of fall...For as bad as the summer has been I have almost gotten as many stripers in the last 3 trips as I got all summer long....

The lastest trend for me is shallow water, near drop offs, find a clam bed to sit over and throw anything that looks like a clam...Sea Clams, Clam Snouts, Stinky Old Clams...Doesn't matter....

And the best part is that its all been on a half ounce sinker worked across the bottom with a trailing hook....

Got Perch, Stripers, and even a small blue, and a crab today...

Time of day has not mattered much at all, however, I have started to see Stripers breaking the surface for bait around dark....Hope its a sign of good things to come...

That brings back memories. We used to fish behind the clammers - they made a nice " chum line ".

Congrats on the 22 - great dinner fish there.

Thanks...If only I kept any of the fish I caught.....

Another nice day today...The Stripers are breaking the surface after bait fish on the Shoals...

Nice to see dome decent sized fish above the bridge....

Rain tomorrow hopefully get out by the evening its been so nice in those last couple of hours....

Mike; you bastard:eek:. How dare you catch and kill all those fish. Maryland's DNR estimated < 1 % of the fish were killed during Catch and Release, HOWEVER, one of the charter boat captains (Brian?) testified that ALL of the slot fish he caught several years ago died when released.

Since DNR restricted our C/R season; they must have gone with Brian's theory:D.
Let me know the next time you are fishing. I will anchor up downcurrent and just net the dead fish floating to me as a result of your irresponsible actions:mad:.

p.s. I know; I'm like a dog with a bone, I just won't let this C/R issue go:cool:.

And it all could have been avoided, if the bloody pictures didn't hit the Internet.

Because of a Charter Boat Captains Assn. hard on for one single person

Well thank God the restrictions put in place to SAVE the < 1 % of the C/R fish worked. In fact it worked so well that now we are debating whether to INCREASE the coastal netting quota.

If the quota does go through, what have you (comms) gained by restricting Marylands C/R season? If the new quota is passed, it will just bring about a total colapse of the fishery sooner.

Restricting Catch and Release
Promoting Catch and Kill

Marty,

Sounds like a plan....I am hoping to be out 3 nights this week....Will let ya know....I take good care of them...They will be great for dinner, if you can keep up with how fast I catch and throw them back....

I love the taste of rockfish, but to be honest I am just glad that I get a chance to catch anything.....

Anyway, they will be on thier way to you...down current...

See ya this week.....

Mike

Ps That bait we talked about is getting forced up and the fish are breaking the surface....Looks beautiful.....

One wonders if the one single person would look the other way, if someone took business away from him without the proper licenses.

Well I have to give you credit. At least you have the balls to admit that it was a vendetta against one person. Now if I could just get Brandon to admit he was USED by the MCBA to accomplish this fact:D.

It was a great chess move to get Brandon to make the proposal. It worked to perfection.

First off, Garlien, nice report.

So that's great, you target an entire fishery because one guy runs an illegal charter under the guise of "helping out others" I still believe it will backfire. Surprisingly few people actually give a crap about the one guy (because everyone is afraid just to say Skip), but most people do care about their right to fish. That being said, a group who attacks a rec's right to fish because of their own personal feelings about an individual will likely suffer because less people will utilize your service. It is funny that so many in this fight to shut it down, actually run PSC&R trips! They were not even smart enough to take them off their websites!!

All this being said, I'm a Comm also, but i do know where my bread is buttered so I'm not going to stand out and attack a group of people who help pay my salary due to personal feelings about one attention whore who runs an illegal charter.

Vendetta? What vendetta?

The bloody pictures were posted on a web forum based in New Jersey, then one in New England. The post that went with the pictures explained that the guys in the photos were in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay and it was supposed to be a catch and release fishery at that time of the year.

Since ASMFC member states monitor all of the important fishing forums, it didn't take long for them to get the word to Maryland DNR of their concern for the mortality in a supposed catch and release time of the year.

Place the blame where you want, but the truth is, the pictures were the proof that ASMFC needed to push DNR to act.
