Shawn Kimbro's book

What time is Shawn signing books tomorrow at Tochtermans?
Marty

Found it:D
2-5 pm tomorrow.
I checked every fishing site I visit and even Shawn's, to no avail. Then it hit me, the CCA sent me an email and it was in my AOL account.

Marty,

Already got my signed copy...

:)

I am almost through the book...Shawn did a hell of a job on it, it is a great read by someone who cares about our Bay....

Lots of good pointers, but even better, great shared experiences...

Talking about being out of the loop.. Didn;t even know he wrote one...

You think he would have sent one with his Xmas Card....

Hmmm... Must call the boy.. and see where I may purchase a copy..

Spot77 12-30-2011 11:29 AM

Not to steal Shawn's thunder, but I was given this book for Christmas:

http://www.amazon.com/Fishing-Maryla.../dp/0762744456

....and after just flipping through it a little bit, I've picked up on a few places I never knew about.

I'll post more about it later after I go through it completely.

Nice seeing you guys. I thought the BS factor was pretty much under control until Marty showed up!

So whats the book like? Is it strictly about fishing or does it have a lot of conservation stuff in it? I hate thoose kind of books that try to lure you in by claiming its about fishing, only to try to push their beliefs about conservation on you

garlien 12-31-2011 11:05 AM

Its about fishing and there are some really great things to learn in the book, however, Shawn does talk about the importance of respecting the Bay throughout the book.

Not sure if you have kids or not but I can tell you this, some of my best memories of my dad were our times out on the Bay fishing and crabbing...The least I can do for my kids is to make sure I don't screw it up any worse than it already is...

Regardless, Shawn's book is well written and full of good tips and tricks, its not a technical manual, so it reads very well...

Stop by one of the local tackle shops that are carrying the book and check out a few pages...I think you will like it and pick up a copy.

Sounds good thanks, does anybody know what tackle shops are selling them? How about Bowleys B&T

Not sure exactly what shops carry it. I would assume it will be available at some of the winter flea markets, and I know it's available on Shawn's websight chesapeakelighttackle.com:D.

Perhaps Shawn will jump in and list some places it's available.

The book is still in pre-release. As such, I've only made a special version with higher grade paper and 21 color pictures available to friends and those I know via the internet. (There are a few left and the link is on my website.) Three first-class local tackle shops contacted me about carrying the pre-release version and agreed to sell them even though they aren't making much money on them. They are AllTackle in Annapolis, Tochterman's in Baltimore, and Marty's in Edgewater. As far as I know, all still have a few left.

Next week I will start contacting other booksellers and baitshops to see if they want to carry the official release version which is almost exactly the same except it contains high resolution grayscale images. I hope to get to some of the flea marks and shows too, but they also hit during my prime fishing season, so it's iffy.

Thanks for the comments.

Shawn Kimbro 12-31-2011 07:10 PM

Mike, thanks very much.

I tried not to be preachy in the book, but I don't know a single good fishermen who doesn't care about preserving our sport.

Chesapeake rock - Shawn's book is a good read. Lots of good stories , tips , etc. for LTJ - you know the guys who can not figure out trolling :D

I did not find any hidden agenda - the catch / release stuff is part of the game.

Shawn - Ever consider looking into a digital version?

I'm a KISS kind of guy myself (Keep It Simple, Stupid) but I've really fallen in love with reading digital books lately. They're so much easier to manage and since I always have my tablet with me, I can always carry my library with me.

I'm not a very good collector of anything. If it aint practical, I can't have it.

B-Faithful 01-03-2012 02:59 PM

I look forward to picking it up myself. While my wife is into her nook, I will get myself a printed copy.

I'll be downloading it to my tablet this weekend.

Keep us up to date on how sales are going.

Thank you. I'm amazed that the eBook format took right off. Barnes & Noble has it for Nook readers now as well. I batting back and forth whether to put it on iBooks. It's somewhat expensive and I'm wondering if iPad users already have Nook or Kindle apps anyway?

I use a Samsung Galaxy Tablet through Verizon and the Kindle app was free to download.

I just looked at the app store on my iphone and it looks like the Kindle app is free to download there as well. :D

B-Faithful 02-09-2012 12:59 PM

What about book on CD for those of us who spend too much time in a car. :p

kidding. I still need to get mine.. printed copy of course!

5th Tuition 02-09-2012 01:19 PM

I read the book and still don't understand jigging:rolleyes:.

Is there any way I can hitch a ride with the author:D?

My wife says I'm a "tactile" learner (means hands-on).

Shawn,

Amazon has a download for the Kindle App for almost every platform like windows, windows mobile, all of the apple platform, and many others like Scott said....

There are also other readers like Preader that I use on my HP Touchpad with the WebOS mobile platform....

As long as it is a standard format like kindle (.azw I think), .mobi, or .epub anyone can read it...

Really as long as it is .azw from Amazon almost every platform has a reader for .azw files....

Shawn,

I downloaded the book last night (using the link you provided by the way....thanks!)

I will likely NEVER buy a hard copy of a book ever again.

Good move on getting the digital copy out there!
