My son got this for Christmas last year and it's been really helpful to him.

He's learned a few knots and the difference between Texas rigging and Carolina rigging from the book, whereas I was having trouble teaching him. He's 11 now.

I've also found it really useful for learning some new knots and the fine differences between some of the tackle that I don't use frequently.

The book gets good reviews on Amazon, and if you're looking for some small gift ideas for Christmas, this might just be the right thing.

My new post 12/15 activity...Tying a new knot like an expert...One a year...If I get one right every year, I will be happy...

Knots, who would have thought they were so hard to tie....

:)

I follow the KISS rule (Keep It Simple Stupid). I tie three knots. First, a polamar knot to tie all my small terminal tackle (snapswivels to line for example). Second an improved clinch knot to tie lures to leader (bucktails, spoons, parachutes, ect.). And third, a 10 x 10 knot to tie leader directly to line (if I'm jigging and don't want any terminal tackle on the line). This knot usually becomes an 8 x 8 because it is strong enough with only 8 wraps.

All three knots work well with both mono and braid.

I was struggling with a uni to uni line to leader one day on Walleye Pete's boat when he showed me the 10 x 10.

Amazing how many different knots there are for fishing.

Some look far too complex for me.

Always fun reading fishing books.

Marty - Next time I see you , I'll show you a braid to leader knot for LTJ.

Not pretty but fast to tie and strong as can be.

Tying knots has always been a problem for me, and it's definitely my nemesis as I get older and suffer from Dupuytren's disease. (It's much cooler to call it Viking's Disease though  ) My hands don't handle small things very well. Good thing I wear a size 15 shoe, eh? :D

I'm with Marty, Keep It Simple Stupid.

With only have 3 fingers on my right hand knot tying is very hard for me. I have been using the Homer Rhode loop knot and it's very easy for me to tie. I tie the double uni knot to attach my braid to my mono.

Scott all your son will now after reading the book is a brand new custom rod. :D

Well 30 years ago I got my hand caught in a chain and sprocket in a bowling alley machine my Dad owned and I cut my middle and pointing fingers off on my right hand. Now when I give someone the finger it’s a stump… :D You should see the faces on people when I pick my nose, they can’t believe I can get my finger that far up.

That's a cool story (not that losing your fingers is cool or anything).....but MAN you could really tell a whopper with that if you wanted to....:D

I had one surgery in the fall of 2007, right before Thanksgiving and it took me until the end of Feb before I had decent use of my hand.

Being a diabetic for more than 30 years slows down my recovery time a bit I guess.

Here's a picture after the bandages came off:

Yikes that's a big picture! I can't resize it on this computer though....y'all should just stick to looking at the thumbnail of it.

I didn't get the full zig zag cut, I got 4 smaller cuts along creases in the hand, and they reached in with a tool to remove the offending tissue. I can still see the scars, but it isn't too bad.

Got cut on 3/22, looked like this on 3/27:

Stitches out on 4/7, caught this at location X on 4/9:

Damn!!! Nice fish! Your hand looks way cleaner than mine. I have to go back for another surgery already. Been putting it off for a while but I think I might have it done after the first of the year ......when the fishing is slower!
