If it is free it is worth a try in my opinion. You wouldn't have to paint them so you could whip out a set in 30 minutes. I'd be interested to see how they work.

I've made sets from Azec and other poly type materials ( man made wood ).
They work fine but are much more expensive then wood - almost double. The saw dust is awful as it gathers a static charge and clings to everything. My only concern is the material is white and since it does not require paint - might be left as is and tough for others to see on choppy days. There are special spray paints for plastics that might be the ticket. |
We run boards made from "Azec" on Patent Pending. Bad news, they are very heavy. Good news, they are very heavy:eek:.
How can it be both good and bad? Well, they are a ***** to get down off the roof because of their weight, but they have never flipped on us, even in waves were we probably shouldn't have had boards out in the first place. One day, other charters had either lost their board or their board had flipped. Our board would ride up a big wave, catch some air:D, and settle right back down:). They are white, but I convinced him to run flags. Some charters don't:rolleyes:. Oh; one other disadvantage, they are sharp. If you grab them where the 45 degree angle is cut in the front of the board, they will cut you!! 5th (Marty) |
I used pine and the corners were real sharp and the pine is splinter prone so I fired up the router table to round over all the corners. Hopefully they will still bite in the water.
